I periodically find jacket fragments in suppressors with no signs of baffle strike. I'm not entirely sure what's happening in that case. If the fragments are super tiny, it might be due to the bullet scrapping against the barrel. New can owner, a SilencerCo Harvester 300.
I always recommending running guide rods especially the first time using the suppressor. It is a small investment to save a larger investment.
